| Subject: City Hunter confirms casting Park Min-young Sun Feb 20, 2011 7:05 pm | |
| The news was hinted recently, and now it’s confirmed: Park Min-young will play the lead in the City Hunter adaptation starring Lee Min-ho. Ehh, I wasn’t enthusiastic about the prospect of Park in the Kaori role before, but it seems the new adaptation will have a number of differences with the original, so there’s probably no point in hoping for faithfulness to the original. Park’s character is named Kim Nana, and is a Blue House (presidential residence) bodyguard. After Nana loses her parents in a car accident, she supports herself through a number of diverse odd jobs, which includes a background in judo. After struggling, she ends up at the Blue House, where she meets a member of the international communications network team (and MIT grad), Lee Yoon-sung (Lee Min-ho), and they begin a bickering-filled courtship. Well, they sure have cleaned up and gentrified the setting, haven’t they? What happened to Ryo being a lascivious womanizer? That was practically the heart of the franchise, along with the PI angle. It sounds a lot less like the original material and a lot more like Rivals (Strong Opponents) redux. Can they even call it City Hunter with that premise? Oh well. I would’ve loved to see Im Joo-eun or Seo Hyo-rim in the Kaori-inspired role, but it doesn’t really matter anymore. City Hunter premieres on SBS on May 25. Via OSEN, Joy News |

| Park Min-young cast in drama, Chun Jung-myung to join her?
Actress Park Min-young is still on the set of her current drama City Hunter, but she’s already been cast in her next project. (By the by, doesn’t Park Min-young always star in the crack drama of the year, two years running? That’s some thunder. Perhaps she’ll be three for three before the year is even out.) She’ll be starring in the upcoming KBS drama Man of Honor, known also as the highly anticipated reteam of Baker King Kim Tak-gu‘s PD Lee Jung-seob and writer Kang Eun-kyung. The drama is about two young people who overcome their fates and find love. Park will be playing a young woman who dreams of becoming a nurse like Florence Nightingale, even as she struggles with a harsh life. So not a light and fluffy drama, this one. Not that I’d expect anything different from the Baker King team — that drama pretty much branded them as the overcoming-down-and-out-circumstances-to-achieve-your-dream drama people, though truthfully that drama drove me kind of nutty with its makjang story elements. Everything’s all Fate with a capital F and Destiny with a capital D, but the B didn’t stand for baking so much as Birth secrets. But for all its faults, Baker King was a ratings juggernaut, so they certainly know how to make a drama addictive. The real question is who will play her leading man. Chun Jung-myung is reportedly up there as the top contender, which is just all manner of squee-inducing. So much pretty. But the lead role is still unconfirmed, so we’ll have to wait and see. My fear is that somehow this drama cocktail is going to end up Cinderella’s Sister crossed with Baker King, which might make me hurl. But there’s a chance it’ll be more triumph-of-the-human-spirit, less I-love-you-but-you-might-be-my-sister, right? RIGHT? Man of Honor follows The Princess’s Man and premieres in October on KBS. | Park Min Young reveals her close friendship with SNSD’s JessicaPark Min Young recently opened up about her close friendship with SNSD’s Jessica. On July 24th, the actress attended SNSD’s second solo concert, held at the Olympic Gymnasium in Seoul. Despite the fact that she was busy filming for SBS’s ‘ City Hunter‘ at the time, Park Min Young went to the concert to show her support for Jessica. She revealed, “ I’m very close to Jessica. Although I couldn’t stay until the end, I came to the concert to cheer her on. We were actually close even before she debuted. When I first met her, I was a college student and she was a middle-schooler. She was a ‘dongsaeng’ of a close friend of mine, and told me that she wanted us to get close.” The actress continued, “ I’m a shy person, so it took time for us to get close, but now I think of her as a real friend. She even visits me randomly at my house. We can’t see each other often because we’re both so busy, but every time I see her, she’s very cute. These days, Jessica has matured and keeps saying adult-like things. Her cuteness is going away slightly.” Park Min Young was recently cast in KBS2TV’s ‘ Man of Honor‘ and is busily preparing for filming. Source: Enews24 via NateCredits:allkpop.com | |
